Omens and portents are not Chinese. If you find a dead bird on the porch, or a pigeon lays an egg on your patio, feng shui does not have answers for you. When you try to read a meaning into these events you are using a form of spontaneous divination.

Chinese documented unusual births, astronomical events, weather events, and unusual phenomena of many kinds. But not everything had a “meaning” like it does in the Western study of omens — for which we mainly have the Etruscans to thank.
