Wood for tables?

I read that wood is the best material for a desk or a work table. Is it ok to paint said wood or would it be best to leave it natural? and Why or why not?
Answer
Wood isn’t preferable in situations where there is a high fire hazard, where chemicals are in use, or for preparing food unless you’re fastidious about sanitation.
Whether you paint wood or not has nothing to do with feng shui — unless maybe it’s McFengshui.
